Youth Employment Fund (YEF) Offers Ontario Employers up to $6,800 Wage Subsidy

As a part of the $295 million Youth Job Strategy, the Ontario government has teamed up with the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities (MTCU) in order to deliver the Youth Employment Fund. The program aims to help youth between 15 and 29 years of age attain employment, with an emphasis on people living in high unemployment areas as well as those that otherwise face difficulties in obtaining employment.

Youth Employment Fund (YEF) Program: Funding Details

Funding of up to $6,800 per employee will help offset training and hiring costs, while providing of pre-screened applicants to applicant firms also offer the opportunity to decrease recruitment costs. In fact, an additional $1000 is available directly to the candidate to assist with tools and transitional costs into the role. Youth Employment Fund hiring grants provides assistance to eligible employers in order to help cover hiring and training costs for a period of 4 to 6 months.

How the Youth Employment Fund Helps Qualified Employee Applicants

The Youth Employment Fund is a wage subsidy that helps to offset costs of uniforms, transportation, and tools while providing funded training to help address skill gaps.

In order to participate in the Youth Employment Fund, employees must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be between the ages of 15 and 29,
  • Must be resident of Ontario,
  • Must be unemployed or working less than 20 hours per week,
  • Must not be attending school or training full-time.
