Entry to Food Processing Training Program for Student Placement

Food processors in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) have an opportunity to participate in the four-week work placement portion of an Entry to Food Processing Training Program. This nine-week program is being funded by the City of Toronto and begins in July 2012. The Entry to Food Processing Training Program is a great way for students 18 years or older to experience and learn about various topics in the food processing industry, such as the Canadian Food Processing Industry Standards, Public Health Legislation, Food Safety Management, and workplace expectations. The Entry to Food Processing Training Program includes:

  • Five weeks of in-class training
  • Four weeks on job placement
  • Subsequent course planned in October

Unpaid Work Placement Opportunities for Toronto Food Processors

The Toronto District School Board is currently looking for employers who can provide an unpaid placement for these students. They will also provide three candidates for companies to interview. During the unpaid placement, the student will be mentored by a specific supervisor. The school board will assist in the recruitment of these eligible students and any on-the-job support that may be required. You may be eligible for a financial incentive offered by the City of Toronto provided the chosen candidate requires additional training for the given role.
