Ontario Creates (formerly the Ontario Media Development Corporation) provides funding to Ontario digital media businesses, film & television production companies, and book publishers looking to expand into export markets with measurable business development impacts through its Export Fund, which offsets marketing and travel expenses.

Funding Amount

Access up to 50% of costs to a maximum $15,000 per application.

Ontario film and television production companies, book publishers, and interactive digital media content production companies are eligible to apply.

Strategic export development activities including marketing and travel expenses are supported.

Amount Eligible Applicants

Ontario Creates offers three streams of export funding:

The Export Fund – Books supports incorporated, for-profit, Ontario-based book publishers who have been in operation for a minimum of one year. Must have minimum sales revenues from Canadian-authored titles of $20,000; derive over 50% of total sales revenues from book sales; have a minimum of six Canadian-authored titles in print; and have an export development plan for a number of book titles/series or projects with defined, achievable, and measurable business development goals.
The Export Fund – Film & Television supports incorporated, for-profit, Ontario-based film or television production companies who have been in operation for a minimum of one year. Must have an export development plan for a slate of products or projects with defined, achievable, and measurable business development goals.
The IDM Fund supports incorporated, for-profit, Ontario-based interactive digital media production companies who have been in operation for a minimum of one year. Must have at least one owner or full-time employee with a minimum full-time equivalent of three years of experience in the creation of content for interactive platforms, networks or devices (video games, mobile content, websites, etc.).

Eligible Activities

Eligible activities include attendance at key industry markets and events, planned sales
trips or media tours to key territories to meet with identified leads and participation in
trade missions organized by industry associations and government agencies. Proposed
activities must take place outside of Canada. Supported costs may include travel and accommodation, marketing materials, and per diems (capped at $100/day).
