In the 2016 federal budget, $500 million was committed over five years to extend and enhance broadband service in rural and remote communities. As part of this initiative, the Connect to Innovate program was created, supporting up to 50-90% of costs related to establishing or upgrading backbone broadband infrastructures.
- Amount: Up to 50-90% (stream-dependent) towards infrastructure costs to create or improve broadband Internet infrastructure in rural areas.
- Eligibility: Rural Canadian communities. Eligible costs include labour, materials, equipment, satellite capacity, travel, and direct costs (land and buildings are ineligible).
