Research Matters Event – Life in 2030

Research Matters is organized through the cooperation of the Council of Ontario Universities and offers a series of free public events across Ontario. The organization presents an upcoming event in the Kitchener-Waterloo area titled “Life in 2030 – Discuss the future of those who are creating it.”.

When: Wednesday, January 23, 2013 – 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

Where: The Tannery – 151 Charles Street West – Kitchener, ON

The event features several highly educated university researchers discussing what a child born today can expect the world to look like when they turn 18. Those interested in attending may learn more about the event and how to register for free by visiting the Youth Ontario Research Homepage.

Small Business Government Funding for Research and Development

Canadian Universities are renowned for their talent recruitment resources and research and development capacities. Canadian business are encouraged to employ these resources through several Canadian Government grants for small business R&D.

  • MITACS Enterprise: Participants can receive up to $30K in non-repayable business funding grants or 50% of the salaries for one or multiple post-secondary graduates. Interns can receive funding for a 6-month research project relating to one of the fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math);
  • Graduate Enterprise Program (iSTEM): This program provides a wage subsidy of up to $15K for a 6-month internship involving a graduate trained in one of the disciplines of STEM. Individuals can be applied to a range of positions within the organization related to their field of study;
  • NSERC Engage: Up to $25K in non-repayable government funding grants for a 6-month collaborative R&D project involving an eligible Canadian Post-Secondary Intuition. Successful projects may also be eligible to receive follow up funding through NSERC CRD;
  • NSERC Collaborative Research and Development (CRD): Research and development funding grants for larger projects, usually applied for by SMEs following an NSERC Engage project. Provides 25-75% of the project expenses for a collaborative R&D project lasting up to 5 years.
