Canadian Government Funding: ICTC Career Focus for eHealth Hiring

The Federal Government of Canada has helped establish the Information and Communication Technology Council (ICTC) small business funding grants for hiring to help Canadian healthcare corporations develop talented, highly skilled labour forces that will lead them to a competitive advantage globally. The Canadian government funding program is called ICTC Career Focus; a highly successful program that has supported small and medium-sized companies across Canada. This program offers hiring grants for small business in the form of 50% wage subsidies for 4-8 month internships, up to a maximum of $12,750.

ICTC Career Focus Canadian government funding wage subsidies for hiring cover occupations under the E-Health category are grouped into 12 different descriptions.   Generally speaking, applicant employers can combine more than one unique job description however the majority of responsibilities taken on by the employee covered through this government grants for small business program should encompass the responsibilities outlined by ICTC, included below.   (View our previous article for our list of eligible ICT careers)

Canadian Government Funding for E-Health Occupations

Clinical Informatics:

  • Liaise between information technology and healthcare delivery teams towards a fully integrated electronic health information system (EHIS);
  • Utilize the understanding and nature of clinical practice to identify opportunities where informatics concepts, methods and tools can enhance quality and productivity in the clinical environment 

C-Suite Level:

  • Provide vision and leadership for developing and implementing information technology and management initiatives within the healthcare environment;
  • Promote and oversee strategic relationships between internal health information technology resources and external entities, including government, vendors, and partner organizations

Decision Support:

  • Provide evidence-based decision support services for clinical and administrative intelligence leading to optimal health intervention;
  • Review clinical practice guidelines, care pathways and data to design and/or use decision support systems and conducting data analysis to produce intelligence for care delivery processes

eHealth Architecture and Development:

  • Designing, developing, integrating, deploying, and evaluating a wide range of health information systems for supporting healthcare enterprises, planning initiatives;
  • Defining high quality and cost-effective solutions to address business problems

eHealth Business Analysis:

  • Acts as an interface between business, clinical and technology teams;
  • Provide business, process, management and requirements analysis for healthcare systems that can be transformed into applications, technical and operational solutions

eHealth Change & Transition Management:

  • Designing and developing eHealth systems, change management practices and processes to ensure integrated organizational and behavioural changes’
  • Analyse the impact due to health information technology changes; developing, implementing and using relevant tools and methodologies for change readiness

eHealth Privacy Management:

  • Performing electronic health information privacy impact assessments,
  • Developing policies and procedures, educating, training, monitoring and auditing; monitoring advancements in information privacy technologies to ensure organizational adaptation and compliance

eHealth Project Management:

  • Managing and directing projects throughout life cycle (initiating, planning, executing, controlling, closing);
  • Defining the project’s objectives, leading and motivating teams and resources,
  • Adapting to business cultures, understanding organizational governance, preparing project documents;
  • Implementing activities based on health industry best practices

eHealth Standards Management:

  • Developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating eHealth standards;
  • Engaging with national and international standards development organizations, providing recommendations on the adoption, adaptation, development and/or use of eHealth standards

Health Application Implementation/Development & Support:

  • Provide technical system and clinical application expertise, functional support and training for software package implementation to meet clinical, research and business requirements

Health Information Management:

  • Design, consult, implement, evaluate, manage and maintain e-Health information processes, systems and programs;
  • Develop eHealth strategies and plan and implement initiatives and new information management technologies to ensure best practices in health information management

Health Systems Integration & Deployment:

  • Design, build, configure, connect, install and maintain interfaces to systems in order to ensure data integrity and decrease risk
