3 KW Region Firms among those Pre-Qualified for Build in Canada Innovation Program

Last week (December 10, 2014), Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) released a list of firms and their products which have been pre-qualified for the Build in Canada Innovation Program (BCIP). Among those reaching this second stage of the BCIP government acquisition program are three Kitchener-Waterloo area firms: Desire 2 Learn, 2G Robotics, and Integrated Circuit Scanning Probe Instruments.

Desire 2 Learn: Game-Based Learning System BETA

D2L is a global leader in education technology known for “Brightspace,” the world’s first integrated learning platform. D2L’s game-based content system will allow instructors to seamlessly create and publish gamified learning activities inside of online courses.

2G Robotics: “Sea Shot 3D”

2G Robotics is the world leader in precision underwater dimensional measurement technology. 2G Robotics’ “Sea Shot 3D” is an underwater camera that produces point clouds from which measurements can be determined.

Integrated Circuit Scanning Probe Instruments (ICSPI)

ICSPI (pronounced “ICY SPY”) is developing a whole new approach to nanometer-scale metrology. ICSPI’s sc-AFM replaces conventional AFMs with a single chip that is 1 million times smaller and 1 thousand times cheaper. And that’s no small feat!

About the Build in Canada Innovation Program

BCIP is a permanent, competitive first purchase program offered by the Canadian government. Canadian companies can submit a proposal for their innovative, pre-commercial products or services that have the potential to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the government. Contract values of up to $500,000 will be potentially awarded to each successful applicant. $17 million has been set aside for this final Call for Proposals.

How the Build in Canada Innovation Program Works

Upon the closing of a BCIP Call for Proposals applicants are evaluated in order to produce a pool of pre-qualified proposals. From the pool of pre-qualified proposals, PWGSC will attempt to match a testing department with the innovative product of each pre-qualified applicant. PWGSC will attempt to negotiate a contract with those pre-qualified applicants that receive a “good fit.” Contracts are not guaranteed to be awarded.

When is the Next BCIP Call for Proposals?

BCIP Calls for Proposal typically take place twice per year.  Expect more information on regarding the next call for proposals early Q2 2015.
