Funding for Aerospace & Defense: Technology Demonstration Program

Similar to the Strategic Aerospace and Defense Initiative (SADI), the Technology Demonstration Program (TDP) offers funding for large-scale technology projects in the Aerospace and Defense (A&D) industry. The TDP, however, offers funding as a non-repayable contribution to support project completion. The program supports original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and tier 1 suppliers in complex technology demonstration projects.

The Technology Demonstration Program (TDP): Details

The TDP Canadian government funding program provides OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers funding for projects will have significant impacts on the next-generation of A&D manufacturing and services in Canada. The TDP specifically supports technological developments in A&D areas that have significant potential for broad-based and long-term economic benefits to Canada. These can include technological innovation, economic diversification, and / or job creation. TDP also highlights projects that have broader impacts to Canada social, environmental, health, or security benefits.

TDP Funding for Technology Demonstration: Funding Available

Companies applying for TDP can apply for up to 50% coverage of their project. The TDP will support projects up to a maximum of $54M per year. The majority of the funding from TDP will be allocated to covering direct labour costs for the R&D of the project, but the funding will also cover:

  • Materials;
  • Project-specific equipment;
  • Overhead; and
  • Project-related infrastructure and facilities may be eligible.

Applicants are expected to have a post-project strategy in place that demonstrates how the results of the project will continue beyond the funding time period, and a strategy to move towards commercialization.
