Industry Commercialization Associates Program – Alberta Innovates

Receive up to $112,000 in Government Funding.

Alberta Innovates’ Industry Commercialization Associates Program offsets a portion of costs related to hiring an associate to perform technical commercialization activities. Contribution is paid as a monthly stipend plus an annual Expense Allowance of up to $7,000 to cover a portion of non-salary costs incurred by the researcher. Associates may be hired as a part-time or full-time employee.

Amount of Funding

Successful applicants may receive the following funding amounts:

  • Level 1: up to $52,500 per year per full-time applicant (max of two);
  • Level 2: up to $75,000 per year per full-time applicant (max of two); or
  • Level 3: up to $105,000 per year per full-time or part-time applicant (max of two).

Eligible Applicants

To be a successful applicant all businesses must meet the following criteria:

  • Is a legal for-profit small or medium sized enterprise (SME) with less than 500 employees and $50 million in annual gross revenue;
  • There is no conflict of interest between the applicant and associate of choice;
  • The business is physically located in Alberta; and
  • Is currently in good standing, financially, with Alberta Innovates and it’s subsidiaries.

Eligible Activities

An activity may be eligible if:

  • It is outlined with identifiable milestones;
  • Has been fully finished within one year of application acceptance; and
  • Adheres to any further criteria Alberta Innovates may implement.

Accepted activities per level:

  • Level 1: Associates that act in a business development role, such as promoting and selling products and services, building relationships, and reporting;
  • Level 2: Has a Bachelors degree and has considerable experience in business, such as the capacity to manage and grow projects, marketing campaigns, and has technical expertise in economics, finance, etc.; or
  • Level 3: Associate has exceptional business development experience and is able to manage all previous tasks as well as step into a senior level position such as a technical advisor.
