Canada Media Fund’s Innovation Program Awards ~$6.2M in Funding

In February 2018, Canada Media Fund (CMF) announced over $6.2 million in Canadian government funding to support innovative digital media projects. These projects will help leading-edge of software and interactive digital media companies bring their projects to market, both within Canada and across the world.

Canada Media Fund is supporting 27 Canadian innovative digital media projects with up to $6.2 million in funding.

CMF’s Innovation Program – Experimental Stream supports the growth, construction and publicity of innovative media content for Canadians. There are multiple streams of funding provided through the program; each provides up to 50-75% of eligible project costs to a maximum of $300k-$1.2M in Canadian government funding.

Canada Media Fund: 27 Successful Projects Awarded

The Canada Media Fund Innovation Program’s Experimental Stream recently awarded funding for 27 projects, of which 19 accessed funding for product development and another eight for marketing support.

CMF Media Development Project Wins

$4.2M in government funding have been awarded to 19 projects that are in earlier stages of development. CMF funding will help create the projects and offset the costs of developing small, technical and imaginative elements.

  • 12 games awarded a total of $2,854,160
  • 5 media applications awarded a total of $911,415
  • 2 software applications awarded a total of $415,961

CMF Media Marketing & Promotion Project Wins

Another $2M has been awarded to eight projects that are complete and are ready to marketed and/or sold to customers. Digital media funding will support marketing campaigns, market-testing, and online advertisements, among other activities designed to drive commercial success.

  • 2 games awarded a total of $407,350
  • 3 media applications awarded a total of $1,032,000
  • 3 software applications awarded a total of $594,692

The Canada Media Fund Innovation Program’s Experimental Stream supports a strong and diverse software and digital media industry. By providing small business funding, software developers can accelerate the completion of projects and drive global revenues, helping to scale growth.

Canada Media Fund’s Innovation Program provides up to 50-75% of eligible project expenses to a maximum of $300k-$1.2M in software development funding.

Canadian companies can apply for CMF funding through four unique streams:

  1. Media Development: Up to 75% of project costs to a maximum of $300k;
  2. Media Production: Up to 75% of project costs to a maximum of $1M;
  3. Marketing & Promotional Support: Up to 75% of project costs to a maximum of $400k; and
  4. Commercial Projects Pilot Program: Up to 50% project costs to a maximum of $1.2M.
