The Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF) funds organizations, businesses, and other eligible recipients to improve accessibility and/or safety for people with disabilities by supporting the capital costs of renovation, construction, and/or retrofit activities and the provision of accessible technologies in workplaces and communities across Canada.

Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF)

Amount of Funding

There are currently three EAF components, all with different funding allotments:

  • 1) Youth Innovation Component: Successful applicants may receive up to $10K per project in grant funding for 100% of eligible costs.
  • 2) Small Projects Component: Successful applicants may receive up to $100K per project in grant funding for 100% of eligible costs.
  • 3) Mid-Sized Projects Component: Successful applicants may receive up to $3M per project grant funding for 100% of eligible costs. EAF has introduced a flat-rate to this component of funding for the following projects:
    • Ramps;
    • Accessible doors;
    • Accessible washrooms;
    • Elevators;
    • Lifts; and
    • Pool lifts.

Eligible Applicants

For-profit and non-profit organizations (businesses must have fewer than 100 employees). Municipalities with ≤125,000, and indigenous organizations.

Eligible Activities

There are currently three EAF components, all with eligible activity criteria:

  • 1) Youth Innovation Component:
    • Buying equipment such as para-hockey sleds;
    • Constructing raised garden beds for a community; and
    • Creating accessible sensory rooms for the impaired.
  • 2) Small Projects Component:
    • Construction ramps, doors for accessibility, and accessible washrooms;
    • Installing screen reader devices and hearing loop systems; and
    • Constructing an accessibly designed office.
  • 3) Mid-Sized Projects Component:
    • Projects must offer holistic programs and services to support the inclusion for persons with disabilities in the community sphere and labour market.
