To integrate ZEVs into Canada’s supply chain, the NGen Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Value Chain Program invests in innovative, business-led, collaborative projects. In this program, we will focus on manufacturing scale-up along the ZEV value-chain, specifically on BEVs, FCEVs, and their components.

NGen Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Value Chain Program

Amount of Funding

To a maximum of $2.96M, you can receive non-repayable funding for 37% of your eligible project expenses. Approximately $1.5 million to $8 million should be spent on the project.

Eligible Applicants

Be incorporated in Canada and have value-added presence in Canada (e.g., R&D, manufacturing) beyond just a sales office.

Be one of the following:

  • A for-profit organization
  • A not-for-profit organization that facilitates and fund research and development on behalf of the ecosystem and whose funding and/or revenue is received primarily from private-sector or industry organizations,
  • A non-federal Crown corporation whose funding is derived from commercial activities,
  • An Indigenous organization, or
  • Any other entity approved in advance by the Minister.

Eligible Activities

Focus on developing advanced manufacturing technologies, novel manufacturing processes, or circular economy capabilities.

Product development, testing, and validation can be included in a project as long as it is required to support manufacturing goals and does not exceed 15% of the project.

Along the ZEV value-chain, project proposals must support the development of the following areas: 

  • The processing, refinement, and production of critical minerals and materials for EVs and their systems
  • Components and systems associated with traction batteries
  • A significant reduction in vehicle weight   
  • Components and systems related to power electronics  
  • Components and systems associated with electric machines
  • (Full system) Fuel cell
