The Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN)’s Regional Workforce Program is an Ontario government funding program designed to encourage students of all ages across the province to pursue careers in the automotive and mobility sector by providing eligible applicants with funding for projects that bring awareness to the diverse career options available in the automotive skilled trades sector.

Amount of Funding

Successful applicants may receive the following:

  • Funding up to a maximum of $500,000 in co-investment support;
  • Funding may be allotted over a maximum of 24 months (two years);
  • A minimum 2:1 cash match by applicants and/or partners is required; and
  • The match must come from private sector contributions.

Eligible Applicants

To be eligible applicants and partners must meet these required criteria:

  • Applicants and partners must both be SMEs with less than 500 employees that are full time equivalent (FTE) with a maximum annual revenue of $50 million;
  • National and multinational enterprises (NEs and MNEs) are permitted to be partners;
  • Institutions that are publicly funded;
  • Not-for-profit organizations
  • Indigenous communities; and
  • Municipalities.

Eligible Activities

Important eligibility criteria for this program is that:

  • Applicants are expected to create programs that engage a minimum of 500 students.
  • The programs must be of no cost for the student to participate.
  • The programs must have unique segments for at least two audience segments ranging from kindergarten to post-secondary.
