Alberta Innovates – Product Demonstration Program Business Grants

bigstock-Young-businessman-touching-ico-49917812Alberta Innovates Product Demonstration Program offers small business grants programs to help Alberta’s SMEs, including start-ups, and post-secondary research institutions, develop and commercialize innovative technology in a variety of industry sectors. Over the past year, Alberta Innovates Technology Futures Corporation (AITF) has worked with over 250 Alberta companies to provide support in the areas of business innovation and development, including grant funding for business.

Alberta Innovates Product Demonstration Program Details

Alberta InnovatesProduct Demonstration Program offers Canadian small business grants to SMEs involved in the following areas, with innovative technology that is ready for commercialization:

  • Information & communication technology,
  • Life sciences (agriculture, forestry, biotechnology, etc.),
  • Nanotechnology,
  • Energy,
  • Environment
  • Health.

Note: SMEs are defined as having fewer than 50 employees and less than $5 million in revenue. Businesses must be located in Alberta in order to be eligible for this Alberta business grants program.

Alberta Innovates Product Demonstration Program: How it Works

Through the Product Demonstration Program, companies connect with a host organization (not-for-profit or for-profit) that is able to evaluate the technology and enable them to launch a successful product into the market place. The Product Demonstration Program’s research and development funding for business can be used towards project specific costs such as salaries for personnel and consultants working directly on the project and equipment.

Alberta Small Business Grants Application Process

Alberta business grants of $100,000 – $300,000, or up to 50% of the project costs, is available to applicants who are successful in the 2-part application process.   The first step in the process is the submission of an Expression of Interest. Projects are then selected to proceed to the full application part of the process. There are 4 deadlines a year to submit an Expression of Interest to the Product Demonstration Fund: January 1st, April 1st, July 1st and October 1st, 2014.
