3 Hiring and Training Grants to Minimize Payroll Costs in 2017

Payroll is a consistent cost to all employers across Canada. Fortunately, business grants are available to minimize these costs.

Did you know that you can hire a recent post-secondary graduate and receive up to 50% of their payroll in government grants? In fact, an additional grant may cover up to 2/3 of third-party training costs for any employee on your payroll.

Hiring Grants for Summer Students in 2017:

  • Covers up to 50% of minimum wage (100% of min. wage for non-profits).
  • Must apply now for internships starting next year. Application Deadline: January 20, 2017.
  • Internships can start from April 17 to July 16, 2017. Must finish by August 26, 2017.
  • Students must be returning to school in the fall of 2017.
  • Can apply for multiple candidates.
  • Open to employees with <50 employees.

Hiring Grants for Post-Secondary Grads in 2017:

  • Covers up to 50% of their payroll to a maximum of $14,000-20,000 over 4-12 months.
  • Applications open each year in Q2 (April-June) for hiring youth college/university grads not already on payroll.
  • Can apply for multiple candidates.
  • Program variants support many industries and position types.

Third-Party Training Grant:

  • Covers up to 66% of future third-party training expenses.
  • Can include multiple employees.
  • A wide variety of training themes are covered including software, certifications, soft skills, and post-secondary courses.

Apply for Hiring and Training Grants in 2017

Both hiring programs are first-come, first-serve so it’s important to build a funding plan early on. Training grants may be accessed throughout the year.
