Premier’s Innovation Awards Program Invites New Applications

bigstock-Wheat-field-at-sunset--24968420The Premier’s Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence Program is now accepting applications.  Innovative businesses in Ontario’s agriculture and food industry are encouraged to apply until the closing date of February 28, 2014. The Premier’s award recognizes innovative businesses that improve existing products, create jobs and help drive economic growth.

Premier’s Award Offers Agriculture and Agri-Food Firms Awards of up to $75,000

The Premier’s Award will once again recognize up to 50 businesses from the industry across Ontario.  Award recipients will receive a plaque, word-mark and gate sign, as well as a cheque for $5,000.  Additionally, among those 50 businesses that receive the award, one business will be chosen to receive the “Premier’s award” (an extra $75,000), another will receive a “Minister’s Award” (an extra $50,000), and 3 businesses will receive “Leaders in Innovation Awards” (an additional $25,000).

Who Can Apply for These Awards for Agriculture and Agri-Food Innovation?

These awards aim to recognize the work of farmers, primary producers, processors, and agri-food related organizations.   They support a strong and innovative agr-food industry as a part of the Ontario government’s three part economic plan to invest in people, infrastructure, and help businesses grow and create jobs.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Awards form the Government of Ontario –Application Details

Applications must be received by 5:00pm on February 28, 2014.  Those applications found eligible for the award will be reviewed by two independent panels composed of individuals from Ontario’s agri-food industry.  For additional information contact the Agricultural Information Contact Centre at 1-877-424-1300.
