The Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program is a Canadian government grant that offers support for employers providing supervised career-related work experience for youth employees. The experiences gained through funded placements should further develop their skills and knowledge, preparing them to make a transition into employment.
Businesses that are eligible for funding through Canada Summer Jobs can use the Hiring Grant Finder to learn about additional funding support available for offsetting new employees’ wages up to 50-75%.

Top Funding Programs for Hiring & Training
Canada Job Grant (CJG): Supports third-party skills training to new and existing employees by covering up to 50-100% of eligible costs;
Career-Ready with CTMA: Wage subsidies for new hires or the upskilling of existing employees, funding 30% of wages paid to a max of $3,000 for each placement; and
Mitacs Accelerate: Pairs businesses with Masters, PhD, and PDF interns to overcome challenges. Covers up to 75% of funds to $15,000 per 4-6 month internship.

Amount of Funding
The CSJ program strives to provide services that help all young Canadians develop skills and gain paid work experience which will allow them to grow and prosper in the workforce. Successful applicants for the Canada Summer Jobs program may receive:
- Public and private sector employers can receive hiring grants up to 50% of employee minimum hourly rate;
- Non-profits can receive grants up to 100% of minimum wage plus Mandatory Employment Related Costs (MERCs). This amount is capped at a maximum $300,000 per employer/province or territory; and
- Maximum 40 hours/week/employee can be included.

Eligible Applicants
The following may be eligible businesses for the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program:
- Businesses, non-profits, and public sector employers with 50 or fewer employees; and
- Positions must be full-time (30+ hours/week) and span for 6-16 weeks.

Eligible Activities
- Providing relevant work experience and mentorship for youth ages 15-30;
- Providing wages above minimum wage;
- Hiring a priority student;
- Addressing local priorities;
- Employers being small businesses that were/continue to be impacted by COVID-19. Changes to project activities may be altered or amended if the proposed application project is impacted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic; and
- Jobs providing community services, or support towards underrepresented groups and groups with barriers to employment.
