Amount of Funding

Total project costs should be between $2 million and $8 million. Eligible projects will be reimbursed at a funding rate of 35% of total eligible costs.

Eligible Applicants

To be eligible for this program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must have at least two partners contributing to the project, including at least one SME (under 500 FTEs globally);
  • Partnership must include one partner manufacturer and one AI technology company;
  • Partners can be for-profit organizations or not-for-profit organizations that facilitate and fund research and development, and whose funding is received primarily from private-sector organizations;
  • Sub-Contractor or Consultants cannot be project partners; and
  • All project contributors must be NGen members. Membership is free.

NGen AI For Manufacturing Challenge

Eligible Activities

AI-enabled advanced manufacturing technology development and commercialization such as:

  • Systems optimization within manufacturing facilities and/or across supply chains;
  • The development of new advanced manufacturing capabilities for example new robotic, or automation equipment;
  • Enhanced manufacturing facility and process cybersecurity;
  • Rapid prototyping and testing of materials, products, and processes;
  • The development of other disruptive AI-enabled manufacturing capabilities and services; and
  • Projects will be required to pay NGen a one-time, non-refundable project administration fee equal to 2.5% of the total cost of the project at the time of contracting, before the project start.
